Walter Christaller. Walter Christaller (April 21, 1893 – March 9, 1969), was a German geographer whose principal contribution to the discipline is central place theory, first published in 1933. This groundbreaking theory was the foundation of the study of cities as systems of cities, rather than simple hierarchies or single entities. → Pro und Contra Umsetzung Walter Christaller Christallers Forderung: so wenig wie möglich Anbieterstandorte schaffen, ohne dass Gebiete unversorgt bleiben → flächendeckende Versorgung in angemessenen Entfernungen Walter Christaller - Theorie der zentralen Orte unmittelbare CHRISTALLER`S MODEL.Walter Christaller, a German geographer was the first to develop the concept of central place model in (1930). The model is seen to constitute the most powerful theoretical base for the study of the factors of location, size and number and the geometrical arrangement of cities in space.

To judge by the Walter Christaller’s Central Place Theory Explained Central place theory is a geographical theory. It seeks to explain how humans settle within urban systems. Created by Walter Christaller, the idea is that the size, location, and number of human settlements is based on what he described as a “central place.” Central place theory was given by Walter Christaller in 1933, CPT in urban geography is one of the most appreciated theories which tries to explain the spatial arrangements and distribution of human settlements and their number based on population and distance from another human settlement.

In 1933, Walter Christaller introduced Central Place Theory (CPT) as a way to explain the location, number, and size of settlements, where these locations acted as central places that provided services to surrounding areas. Central Place Theory sought to explain the economic relationships of cities with smaller settlements.

August Losch presented the Economic Location theory in 1939 based on the modification of the "Central Place Theory" of Christaller & Weber's industrial location theory. August Losch was the German Economist, his model was to find the economic location that will maximize the overall profits. Walter Christaller brought his peculiar spatial imaginary of formal geometry and place-based rural romanticism in planning the “empty space” of the East after non-Germanized inhabitants were removed. His central place theory re-created the Nazis' territorial conquests in the geographical likeness of the German homeland.
